Children and social networks under scrutiny: experts in Zlín will debate the impact of social networks on children

04. June 2025

How children are affected by the world of social networks? What can the state, regulators and the platforms themselves do to protect them? And what are the consequences of the digital environment on the development of children's brains and psyches? Answers to these questions will be sought today at the ninth annual conference Media to Kids, Media with Kids, organised by the Radio and Television Broadcasting Council in cooperation with the Slovak Rada pre médiálne služby. The event takes place today in the Irena Ondrová Hall at the Zlín Congress Centre, and is part of the accompanying programme of the Zlín Film Festival.

Opening remarks will be given by Ing. arch. Václav Mencl, Chairman of RRTV, and Mgr. Andrea Cox, member of the Slovak Media Council. The first session will focus on regulation and self-regulation of the digital space. Mgr. Vilma Hušková, MBA from the Office of the Broadcasting Council will present the competences of regulators towards video sharing platforms and audiovisual services. The Fair Influencer Initiative will talk about the place of Jan Kotek in this environment. The ethical framework of digital content creation will be presented by Petr Lutonský from the Association of Digital Creators.

The second part of the conference will focus on the psychosocial and neurological impacts of social networking. Mgr. Viktória Norisová, PhD. from the Council for Media Services will offer a practical view on how to navigate in the digital world and how not to get lost in it. She will be followed by MUDr. David Kolouch from the Child Psychiatric Clinic of the 2nd Faculty of Medicine of Charles University and Motol University Hospital, who will present findings from practice and scientific studies investigating the impact of social networks on brain development and mental health of children and adolescents.

The conference is intended for professionals, educators, parents, health care professionals, media, social services and representatives of digital platforms. It offers a space for exchanging experiences and finding ways to create a safer digital environment for the youngest generation.
