A Small Overview of Last Year’s Edition

The beginning of January is the perfect time for a bit of reflection. And while we are already working hard on preparations for the upcoming festival, we invite you to take one last look back at the 64th edition. What was it like, not just in terms of numbers?
For us, it was a year full of emotions, experiences, and films that showed us how magical the world can be on the silver screen. We offered you 19,499 minutes of pure emotions—more than 13 days of laughter, tears, suspense, and love. The most powerful moment for us was undoubtedly the presentation of an award to the talented Canadian actress Lou Thompson for the film On Earth as in Heaven.
This year, through the silver screen, you had the opportunity to journey to 55 countries around the world. We presented films from exotic corners of the globe, such as Thailand, Peru, New Zealand, Mongolia, Colombia, and Japan. A total of 122 filmmakers introduced their works in Zlín, with one of them traveling more than 7,000 kilometers to reach our festival cinema. You could enjoy 179 films in their premiere screenings.
A highlight of the festival each year is the award ceremony. The audience's favorite, which won their prize, was the film Young Hearts. You can watch an interview with the lead actors during their visit to our festival here.
Did you know that preparing for the festival also involves visiting partner festivals abroad? Over 50 days of traveling to 20 festivals across 14 countries, we covered an incredible 83,456 kilometers. From Tokyo to Oulu to Las Vegas, and temperatures ranging from a chilly -8 °C to tropical 36 °C, each festival was unique and full of inspiration, experiences, and friendships.
And finally, the best number of all—this year, over 125,000 visitors helped create the unforgettable festival atmosphere with us! Thank you for your support.
