New Czech film Fichtelberg will have its world premiere today at the Zlín Film Festival

31. May 2025

The adventure family film Fichtelberg by screenwriter, director and designer Šimon Koudela will be screened for the first time at the Zlín Film Festival. The gala premiere screening will take place on Saturday 31 May at 6 pm at the Golden Apple Cinema. The screening will be accompanied by a large delegation of filmmakers and actors who will also be present at other festival events during the day.

Fichtelberg tells the story of a young knight, Peter the Fifth, who in 1547 arrives in the village of Urbach in the Jizera Mountains, where he is tasked with building a bridge over a deep chasm to open the way to the riches hidden in the mountains. However, the locals are afraid of the construction - their fear has deeper reasons. When a girl named Alma mysteriously disappears, Peter sets out on her trail and finds himself in an unknown world full of secrets, old technology and hidden dangers. His adventurous quest transforms him and leads him to discover his own strength and the truth about himself.

I took the whole long process of making it from script to post-production as an adventurous journey where I learned many new things and met many interesting people. I didn't restrict myself too much in the writing, but that then required filming in challenging conditions during production - in dangerously high steep cliffs, in a mountain raging river and literally in a fire. The people in the crew and the actors had to take risks, go to denial and I thank them for that,

said Šimon Koudela, who is not only the director of the film, but also its screenwriter and creator of the artistic concept.

In addition to Koudela, the actors Jan Dlouhý, Ondřej Stupka, Jiří Štěpnička, Viktória Harkabus Jurištová and Ivan Franěk, cinematographer Jan Baset Střítežský, architect Jiří Sternwald, sound master Richard Müller, costume designer Sylva Zimula Hanáková, make-up artists Miroslava Krepsová and Jaroslav Šámal and assistant director Radek K. Vysoudil.

The audience can meet the filmmakers from 3 pm on the Red Carpet in front of the Congress Centre, at 4 pm during the Meet & Greet: Festival Premieres in the Bedouin tent in Komenský Park and at 5 pm at the autograph session in the Zlaté jablko shopping centre.

The film will be released in Czech cinemas on 9 October 2025.
