From Japan to Zlin: Mipo O brought the story of small heroes with a big message

03. June 2025

Emotions, laughter and silent concentration. The penultimate day of the festival brought a variety of film experiences that were united by sincerity, humanity and the desire to raise important issues. Audiences of all generations filled the halls of the Golden Apple Cinema, enthusiastically participating in the screenings and the discussions with the filmmakers afterwards.

The audience had the opportunity to meet the Japanese director Mipo O, who today presented her film How Dare You? (Japan, 2025, 96 min) in person at the Golden Apple Cinema. Her film tells the story of ten-year-old Yuji, who tries to impress his classmate Kokoji through environmental activism. Together with the troubled Haru, they launch green initiatives that gradually escalate into unexpected mischief. This sensitive, funny and profound film will win over audiences not only with its topical subject matter, but also with its strong dose of emotion and understanding of a child's world.

Tonight's next screening with guests:

  • March to May (Czech Republic, 2024, 85 min)
  • Miss Boots (Canada, 2024, 94 min) - screenwriter Dominic James came to introduce the film
  • Bro (Czech Republic, 2025, 29 min) - presented by director Filip Špinka and actor Tom Brenton
  • This Too Shall Pass (Canada, 2024, 105 min) - producer Michael Peterson attended the screening
