PIPPI LONGSTOCKING AND CO. AS THE MAIN FOCUS FOR 2017

At the end of next year it will be 110 years since the birth of the Swedish writer Astrid Lindgren. In honor of this legendary writer Swedish cinema for children and youth will be one of the main topics of the upcoming 57th Zlín Film Festival that takes place from May 26 to June 3, 2017.

Pippi Longstocking, Karlsson on the Roof, The Children of Bullerby Village and many other of the Astrid Lindgren´s literary characters entered the lives of several generations of children around the world. „The anniversary of Astrid Lindgren´s birth has brought us to remember her immortal heroes not only within film adaptations but also through theatre performances or literary events,“ says Markéta Pášmová, Artistic Director of Zlín Film Festival. „A big showcase called Days of Swedish Cinema will consist of more than 30 feature films for children and youth,“ she reveals the programm plan.

Zlín Film Festival organizers already established dramaturgical cooperation with the biggest Swedish Film Festival for Children and Youth BUFF in Malmö, but also with institutions that represent Sweden in the Czech Republic, such as the Nordic Film Club and The Scandinavian House.

As in the previous edition of the festival with Days of French Cinema, visitors can learn more not only about the Swedish cinema but also about culture and life in this Nordic country. "The accompanying program will enable visitors for example to try traditional Swedish game Kubb or try Swedish cuisine," comments Markéta Pášmová on the planned activities.

Festival guests will have the opportunity to meet many Swedish film professionals who will be part of film delegations and juries.
