SALON – Film Clapperboards
The Clapperboard Salon project is celebrating 20 years of its existence. This important anniversary will be one of the main topics of the 57th Zlin Film Festival. Where the film program is concerned, this will also include a section focused on the works of filmmakers who were able to launch their successful careers due to the financial support of the clapperboard auction.
This year's 20th edition of the Clapperboard Salon officially begins during its opening exhibition within the building of the Senate of the Czech Republic on February 7, 2017. Thereafter the entire collection of clapperboards will be put on display at other locations in the Czech Republic (Mlada Boleslav, Brno, Olomouc, Ostrava) till the beginning of May when it returns to Zlin. The exhibition will be put on public display in Zlin at the Zlaté Jablko shopping center and then within the Congress Centre, where the traditional clapperboard auction will take place on Sunday, May 28.
As they were last year, the proceeds from the auction will be donated to support the film works of film school students and other fledgling filmmakers. On Monday morning of May 29, the FILMTALENT ZLÍN Endowment Fund will choose from among projects seeking support (exhibitions, documentary films, live-acted films and animated works); this selection will be based on a competition. Over 19 years, 330 student audiovisual projects have been supported in this way.
The Clapperboard Salon project started in 1998 and during its existence it has created 2,057 clapperboards which have gone on to private collections. The most successful clapperboard in its history was one created by Libor Vojkůvka called Full of Longing, Clapperboard Open, which a buyer paid CZK 199,000 for in 2008. To date the auction has grossed more than CZK 28 million. Over 19 years, the project has held 80 exhibitions of clapperboard collections both at home and abroad.
