Minisalon Film Clapperboards - auction
starting at 14:00 | Academia Centrum, Tomas Bata University, Zlín
For a century now, the film clapperboard has been not only a practical tool but also a slightly nostalgic symbol of filmmaking. During the 38th Zlín film festival, its organizers lent 26 clapperboards to graphic and other artists, asking them to turn them into original works of art. Their works were then exhibited and sold at a public auction. The successful event became a tradition with an ever growing prestige.
In previous years, clapperboards turned into works of art were admired not only by art lovers in Zlín and Prague – the Zlín film festival organized their exhibitions in many other towns both in the Czech Republic and abroad. Since 1998, the number of exhibited clapperboards has grown several times and so have the proceeds from their sale. Last year, the 183 exhibited clapperboards auctioned for a record total sum of CZK 2,735,000.
Every year, the proceeds from the auction go in support of Film School Zlín, helping young filmmakers to finance their first films.
