International Competition of Feature Films for Children and Youth

The cornerstone of the festival, with 16 feature films competing in its two categories; films for children of up to 12 years and films for children of 13 years or older.

International Competition of Short Animated Films for Children

Approximately 70 short animated films for children compete in this section.

International European Debuts Competition

Each year, 10 feature film debuts by European directors compete in this section. The main criterion for selection of films in this category is the young filmmakers' unusual view of the world today.

Competition of Feature Films from the Visegrad Countries

The section presents feature films with no restriction in terms of topic or focus on young audience. This category is judged by a student jury. The competition is a film reflection of the Visegrad Four - the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary.

International Advertising Award "The Rainbow Marble"

The word „responsibility" is widely used today, and has become an inexpendable part of today's advertising environment. The main theme of the Rainbow Marble festival is the emphasis on the ethical aspect of both commercial and non-commercial communication. Rainbow Marble is therefore a festival, which besides creativity, also places value on the ethics behind them. The tone and impact of a piece is considered carefully before it makes the Rainbow Marble shortlist. A prestigious expert jury then selects the best and most creative entries.

There is a traditional category structure, including print, TV, new media a directmail. This year we have added two categories: non-commercial advertising and „Rainbow Smile"with a children's jury.

Rainbow Marble consists of:

...An international advertising festival and awards ceremony

...An expert forum on responsible advertising

...Rainbow Day with advertising - screening of commercials

...Rainbow Night with advertising - awards ceremony

Night Horizons

Serious and provocative topics - films which incite debate and attract the more mature part of the audience, in particular college and university students. The Night Horizons section was created in order to point out the problems which young people currently encounter or are, even indirectly, affected by. Given that adolescence is the phase leading up to adulthood, the Night Horizons section presents films whose creators managed to work with the topic of childhood in a way which will captivate even adults. Projections of this section take place in the late evening hours.

Czech Film and TV Production for Children and Youth

There has been an unceasing positive awareness of this part of the local film production across Europe and some of the more remote parts of the world, which continues up to the present day. Projection of Czech films made both for cinema and TV is therefore a regular and plentiful part of the festival.

Documentaries

A section dedicated to documentaries for children and youth or focusing on children and youth as their topic.

Panorama

The section is informative in its character. It presents mostly films awarded at other festivals, interesting films which cannot, for various reasons, compete in one of the competitive sections or films bringing new, unorthodox views.

Days of European Cinema

This project was created with the aim of presenting European cinemas and started in 2004 with a presentation of the cinema of France. In the past editions of the festivals, the cinemas of Scandinavia and the Baltic regions, Russia, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom were presented in Zlín. In 2009, we will focus on the cinematic production of Spain.

A part of the festival's programme is the ceremony of presenting the Creative Contribution to Filmmaking for Children and Youth award to one of the prominent film professionals. The occasion is taken advantage of by presenting a selection from films of the awarded actor or filmmaker. The festival programme also presents profiles of prominent personalities, previews of films currently in distribution, films related to guests of the festival, etc.
