Day programme
June 6th 2010Day 8 is the final day of the festival. In the afternoon hours the film-goers can see the last film screenings.Film clapperboards

Synopsis: In 1925, Luis Bu?uel lived in Paris, contributing articles and poems to Spanish avant-garde magazines. He was already thinking about publishing them all under the title Andalusian Dog. In the end it became the title of his debut film. The making of the film was financed by María Bu?uel (who is said to never have seen her son's first film) and it was made in two weeks at a film studio in Paris. Today the film is screened in a restored version from 1960 featuring original music. This surrealist film manifesto was an unexpected success. Although a certain plot can be distinguished, the sequence of scenes do not follow the logic of causality. Although subtitles with time data appear in the film, their absurdity only emphasizes the film's illusionary character.
Luis Bunuel: Luis Bu?uel (1900-1983), started as an assistant director to Jean Epstein. Although he is considered a Spanish director, he made few films in his home country - the documentary Land Without Bread (1933, Las Hurdes) and many years later the films Viridiana (1961) and Tristana (1970). He was more active as a producer and screenwriter. He made the majority of his films in Mexico, e.g. The Young One (1960).
