J. BRUCKMÜLLER‘S CLAPPERBOARD IS THE FIRST TO RETURN

Jan 8th 2010 | The first clapperboard to cross the finish line is a piece by painter J. Bruckmüller, which will be part of the Film Clapperboards Minisalon 2010 during the 50th Film Festival Zlín.

The paint has hardly dried on his new clapperboard, called Penetrate the Line. The artist's work reminds us of last year's clapperboard piece called Motion of Doubts.

The clapperboard by Josef Bruckmüller appeared at the headquarters of Film Festival Zlín within the area of the Zlín Film Studios on January 7, 2010. It was carefully wrapped - evidently by the hand of the artist.

"It came by post," Michaela Skaunicová laconically stated about the occurrence. She is the chief production manager of Minisalon -Film Clapperboards. She also added that "Josef Bruckmüller has contributed to the Minisalon for the sixth time. He hasn't missed a single year since 2004. This year he's getting an additional honorary recognition from me along with a personal small award for the earliest delivered clapperboard!"

Film Festival Zlín sent over 150 clapperboards to creatively active artists in the middle of October of last year. According to M. Skaunicová, most of them - of course dressed up artistically - return by the end of February. The complete thirteenth Minisalon 2010 then will put its Film Clapperboards on display in Prague and then move on to Zlin so that they will be on time to be auctioned off on Friday June 4, 2010 during the 50th Film Festival Zlín.

Today "MINISALON - Film Clapperboards" is a prestigious and internationally unique supporting event at Zlín's festival. It is now looked forward to with considerable interest by the media, guests, audiences and collectors of fine art. The number of clapperboards on display since 1998 has increased many times over. Its proceeds have also grown. In 2009, 138 were on display. They were publicly auctioned off for a record-breaking amount of CZK 2,735,000. The proceeds from the auction are given each year to Film School Zlín. This financial support helps in the completion of selected films made at this school by promising filmmakers. Many of them have gone on to be successfully presented at many film festivals at home and abroad. By the end of the twelfth annual Minisalon a total of 1202 artistically rendered clapperboards had been auctioned off. The total proceeds from this nearly amounted to the magic threshold of a million dollars.

The artistically rendered clapperboards have not only been admired by visitors to the gallery in Zlín, but have also been put on display by Film Festival Zlín at many other places, both at home and abroad. The clapperboard exhibition has been on display in Prague (e.g. The Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, Goethe Institute, Hibernia Theater), in Brno (Galerie Dílo), and also in Brussels and Los Angeles, USA.

The painter Josef Bruckmüller (born in 1946) lives and applies his talent in České Budějovice. Areas of his artistic interest are painting, enamel, drawing, graphic arts, sculpture, as well as expressing his talent through architecture. His works, created in thematic cycles, are characteristic for their technical precision. Though self-taught, J. Bruckmüller enjoys notable renown among present-day Czech artists.
