Balcony party

Jun 2nd 2009 | At the first Balcony party of this year were presented two movies: English Strawberries from the Czech-Slovakian production and the Canadian film Only. This informal press conference was also visited by the Czech actress Světlana Nálepková.

The director Vladimír Drha, the producer Pavel Melounek and the script editor Kristián Suda all came to present their film English Strawberries. The director Drha mentioned that his aim was to show the time of August 1968 from the point of view of ordinary people. “Do you think that the Russian soldier wanted to be here on 21st August?” “I don’t think so,” he answered himself. The director showed his disappointment with the fact that there is no standard education at Czech schools concerning the modern history of the 20th century.

The movie Only was the second highly discussed piece of work. The director Ingrid Veninger spoke about the film she made in cooperation with the director Simon Reynolds. She stated that the movie is partially inspired by her own life and the boy appearing in the movie is actually her son. In this context Ingid Veninger spoke about the merits of cooperation of the two directors: “At the end of the film my son was supposed to kiss a girl and he didn’t want to do it, because he had a girlfriend and wanted to kiss her first. That was Simon’s turn. He took him aside and explained him certain things and finally we were able to shoot the scene”. To everyone’s surprise the director started to speak in Slovak. She revealed that she was born in Bratislava and afterwards immigrated with her parents to Canada.

The last guest was the Czech actress Světlana Nálepková who said that children are a very critical audience and immediately show their dislike of anything. The actress also plans to visit several movies of the Spanish cinematography.
