At 10 o’clock this morning the opening ceremony of the 49th International Film Festival for Children and Youth in Zlín was held in the hall of “Velké kino” (Big cinema). At the building entrance living statues dressed as princes and princesses were greeting the visitors. The cinema was crowded with enthusiastic children; some of which were eagerly waiting with notepads for their favourite’s autograph.
The whole event was presented by actors Jan Čenský and Dana Morávková. Introductory speeches were delivered by the festival Art Director Petr Koliha, by Irena Ondrová, the Mayor of the city Zlín and by the Rector of Tomas Bata University in Zlín Ignác Hoza. Soon afterwards the members of the film juries were introduced. Among other members of the International Expert Jury for Feature films is also world-renowned animation artist Gabor Csupo.
The British actor Tim Curry, who starred in Home Alone 2 and The Three musketeers, made an appearance at the opening ceremony.
A new Czech fairytale “Peklo s princeznou” (Hell with princess), which was shortly introduced by its protagonists among with the director of the film Miroslav Šmídmajer, was shown to the children after the ceremony. After the end of the film the kids could get autographs from the present actors.
