Thousands of Films Entered

The ZLÍN FILM FESTIVAL stopped taking admission applications on Tuesday, March 10, 2015.

In total, more than 2,600 competitive and non-competitive films applied to Zlín's film festival. But, of course, this respectable number does not cover all of the films the programming department staff must examine during the pre-selection process. The selection of films into the official program is not limited only to those films that have been entered; our dramaturges are also looking for the right movies for Zlín's festival at various world film festivals and even in archives.  The huge Days of German Cinema section was selected back in Autumn and it will provide great movie experiences for all generations.  The programming department staff has had to go through countless films every day since November, including weekends.

Even films from such countries as Sri Lanka, Nepal, Cambodia, Puerto Rico, the Republic of Congo, Montenegro, and Nigeria have popped up among the films entered.

The number of entered short animated films for children has increased this year, but so has the number documentary films dealing with children's issues.  Not only has the number increased, but also the quality of the entered works.  Some of the documentaries will be presented in a special section called In the Shadow of War, which will be showcase films focusing on children in war zones.

The programming department has less than a month to close all of the program sections.  "The film selection is still going on.  The final decision making process is not always easy for our film program dramaturges.  But it is already clear that this year's festival will include a diverse range of competitive and non-competitive films for diverse audiences."

Audiences at the 55th International Film Festival for Children and Youth in Zlin already have something to look forward to!
