Director Simon Fitzmaurice is afflicted with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, which has completely immobilized him. He made his feature debut using special software that reacts to the movement of his eye and iris. The film tells the story of 16-year-old Emily, who decides to save her father from a life in a psychiatric hospital.

In 2013, Assaf was named a goodwill ambassador for peace by The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees. Assaf did not have professional training as a singer.
